The Sea-Dwellers [1/2]
Sep. 2nd, 2015 12:31 amTitle: The Sea-Dwellers
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Chanyeol / Jongin
Setting & Trope: Parallel Universe & Epistolary Story
Genre: Romance, Drama, Fluff, Mild Angst, Magical Realism
Warnings:mentions of car accident, brief coma, and amnesia
Length: 17.4k words
Summary: Jongin is a glass blower in 2015 and Chanyeol is a writer in 2013. With the help of a very special, magical mailbox, they write to each other and love happens.
A/N: Inspired by the films Il Mare and The Lake House, this fic was written for a fun fanfic writing challenge at
exoficpalette. This story gets a little sad in parts but there is a very fluffy, very happy ending, I promise!
Sequel: The Red Mailbox takes a look at Jongin and Chanyeol's life a year after they reunite.
Many thanks to
springmaid for letting me have extra time to write this story. I’m sorry it took me so long to finish this, Gem, but Chankai just wouldn’t stop writing letters to each other!
Also, much love to
carpesoo for spotting that plot hole. Thanks for everything, bb!
Jongin took a last, lingering look at the sea and inhaled.

Date: 2015-09-06 01:41 pm (UTC)But now this kind of happened and here I am and it would be a shame if my comment gets deleted later (if you still want to delete the story) so maybe I should combine this comment with the one I'll write when I read the next part and post them on AFF for save-keeping.
Now when this is resolved, I'd like to say some words about the story and how I like it so far:
I don't like it, I love it.
I've never read ChanKai before because it never occured to me to acitvely ship these two (neverminding Chanyeol's little obsession for Jongin) but I really, really like it.
I think the two go really well together and I absolutely adore the kind of way you present this story and how it is like 90% letters only.
I'm a real sucker for slight fantasy/mystery so the whole time-difference and the issue with Cola gets me going.
I can't wait to read the next part (though I have to postpone it to my next break).
So please know that this story is far from being bad and I'm just so impressed by the whole atmosphere that I'm clumsy with words.
You know, overwhelmed brains and all that stuff.
